STRATFORD Country hosts, Barry and Robyn invite you to Wadjabangayi Lands, a working cattle station between Jericho and Blackall in Western Queensland.

Currently, six Weekend Packages inclusive of tours with hearty brunches, fireside star-stories with grazing platters, and lakeside camping, are scheduled for 2026. 

Tours from early morning to mid-afternoon, on two consecutive days, will explore the omnipresence of ancient, First Nation, historical and agricultural riches within these desert rangelands of Stratford Station. After beholding spectacular sunsets, lake-edge gatherings beside the campfire look skywards, and are read the Aboriginal Stories as told by the stars. 

Inclusive mid-tour smoko/brunches are in the paddock, and grazing platters compliment the star-gazing. Five days of camping in designated, unpowered sites in open bushlands beside a dry ephemeral salt lake are included in the extended week-end packages at Stratford Country. Encompassed is free access to modern amenities – hot/cold toilet/shower, tapped flowing water from homestead bore, dumpezy & coded refuse bins – plus limitless firewood, bush walks, birdwatching, night-spotting of native wildlife and quiet time in the scrub.           

During the two days of touring across Stratford Station, with two guides, Custodial Elder Barry and pastoralist/owner Robyn, you will: 

• Explore ancient Aboriginal caves, escarpments, hunting grounds, swamps and native wells; venture along old walking tracks and sandy creek beds; share Cultural practices; reveal eon-old paintings, ochre pit & walls and artefacts; and detail the enduring resourcefulness of utilising so much of the plants and animals that sustained over thirty Wadjabangayi here on Stratford
• Experience the night sky through the Dreamtime Stories of the stars, highlighting their Cultural significance to the Wadjabangayi.
• Share Wadjabangayi words and language (from discovered salvage studies and research)
• Discover colonial and pioneer remains, artefacts, heritage sites and settler stories 
• Walk together on shared country, interact with quiet grazing beef cattle and appreciate the nuances of grazen beef, regenerative practices and modern rangeland management
• Enjoy awesome visas, special landscapes and picturesque sunsets
• Experience the true nature and oft-surprising resplendence of Queensland’s inland open-timber country 
• Be immersed in the cultural and ecological fusion across antiquity and seasons  

Road Trip Notes

Stratford County is about an hour north of Blackall, hour & a half from Barcaldine via bitumen through Jericho which is just over 30 minutes to the north. It is 2 hours south east of Longreach, 3 hours west of Emerald and 4 hours from Charleville and Winton. It’s 6.5 hours west of Rockhampton and 11.5 hours by road from Brisbane.
